Brain Bleeding May Indicate a Lemtrada Stroke is Imminent
Doctors are looking for ways to catch and head off Lemtrada's serious side effects before permanent neurological damage occurs
Thursday, June 27, 2019 - The most deadly side effect of taking Lemtrada to moderate incidences of recurring relapsing multiple sclerosis (RRMS) is causing a paralyzing stroke within 24 hours of infusion with the drug. According to Multiple Sclerosis News Today.com (MSNT), Lemtrada has been linked to 13 cases of head and neck bleeding leading to strokes since its coming to market in 2014, as well as several cases of spontaneous intracranial hemorrhage shortly after treatments. The symptoms Lemtrada stroke victims exhibit initially include "decreased consciousness, confusion, and headaches." When a patient experiences any of these symptoms they are immediately treated in their hospital's intensive care unit, however, several have suffered persistent neurological problems. A recent study identified by the MSNT found that a patient may experience elevated blood pressure after Lemtrada treatment as the first indication that brain bleeding and stroke is imminent. Lemtrada attorneys are helping American consumers harmed by numerous dangerous drugs and medical devices and offer a free consultation and no obligation.
Those receiving Lemtrada must undergo a pre-treatment battery of tests including a blood pressure reading to establish a baseline to compare post-Lemtrada blood pressure readings. A 20% increase is thought to be the rule of thumb indicating brain bleeding may occur. A high blood pressure reading is more serious in Lemtrada patients and a reason to admit the patient to the hospital for close observation and further tests during treatment.
In spite of the risk for brain bleeding and stroke, as well as a host of other serious side effects, Lemtrada patients continue to believe in the drug and are mostly satisfied with the improvement it has made to their quality of life. Some patients are encouraged with an improvement in their bladder control and others are thrilled that their disease does not seem to be getting worse any longer. Some patients have shared their recent Lemtrada experiences.
A recent sad Lemtrada story is of a young woman who died shortly after a Lemtrada infusion from sepsis that was misdiagnosed according to Drugs.com. Lemtrada also causes urinary tract infections that can require urinalysis. Flare-ups of RRMS incidents when taking other drugs such as Tysabri and Gilenya usually result in the doctor prescribing Lemtrada as a drug of last resort. Some patients are very pleased with their Lemtrada experience and one says that Lemtrada "gave me my life back." Another has returned to his old hobbies of rock climbing, jogging, camping and hiking having experienced a 90% improvement in his condition including restoration of his eyesight. Other Lemtrada patients report feeling less depressed after Lemtrada.
In spite of some successes, Lemtrada can have serious and permanent negative consequences on a patient's health and a Lemtrada patient needs to be monitored for at least 4 years after stopping treatment. According to Drug.com other serious side effects of Lemtrada include: "unusual bruising or bleeding, blood in your urine or vomit, swelling in your feet, fever, swollen glands, muscle aches, diarrhea, and feeling very weak or tired." These and other side effects may occur during treatment or within 24 hours including "chest pain, trouble breathing, irregular heartbeats, or swelling in your mouth or throat. "
